How to use the calendar to get volunteers: Step 2

Get more attention for key volunteer needs and events by starting a conversation around them. Tap on the “Chat” button on the FYI in the Calendar tab. Then send a nudge, share more information, or make a specific ask in the classroom group chat. **Small group chats are much more effective at prompting parents to engage than big chats, email, or Facebook.** Starting classroom chats within volunteer FYI requests is a great role for Room Parents to help prompt volunteer interest. (Remember that FYI chats get auto-archived after the FYI passes.)

Each calendar item has a link to create its own dedicated classroom chat. Use it to send targeted and chatty reminders.

How to use emojis 👍🏻 to get easy and fast responses

Make it easy and create social proof around your volunteer ask by listing a set of volunteer tasks and then ask families to sign up by responding with a “thumbs up” emoji, or by using the reply feature.
